VIPKid.com review- Worth Trying Or Not

Welcome to my VIPKid.com review. There are so many websites that claim to help you make money online. Some are legit, most are not. If you are new to how making money online works, it could be hard to tell the difference.

This is why I write reviews. I know your time is precious and you don’t want to waste it. I want you to be able to make an educated decision.

With that said let’s see if you can make money with VIPKid.com.

What is VIPKid.com?

VIPKid is a global leader in teaching English online. They have been around since 2014, and have accumulated almost 1,000,000 students on their online platform. You will need a bachelor’s to be considered, and if you are working towards your degree you cannot apply until you have received it.

This website is great for retired teachers, and teachers who no longer want to be in a classroom setting, and rather do a 1on1 tutoring session.
They connect students ages 3-15 from China, with those who speak English as their first language from around the world.

They set themselves apart from other online tutoring services by concentrating on a particular subject area. Most online tutoring services offer a wide variety of subject areas that tutors can choose from. While this helps students select the area they are having the most trouble with, it also affects the quality of the tutor. By only offering English, VipKid ensures that all their tutors are most experienced in teaching English, and students will get the most out of the experience.

They also allow the tutors to create their own schedule and do not demand a minimum hour requirement, which also differs greatly from other online tutoring services. Tutors do not have to create lesson plans and can concentrate on teaching, instead of paperwork.

The best part about VIPKID is the pay. Most teachers make over $20 an hour, and if you treated it like a full-time job, you can make over $45,000 a year. With the pandemic, however; more and more teachers have reported only making $17-19 an hour, and the veteran pay raise that has been an incentive for a lot of teachers, has been suspended indefinitely.

After doing a little research, I’ve created a little outline of how you will get paid working with VIPKid.

Your base pay is for every class, 25 minutes long, which is $7.50.
Depending on how much work you put in, you can get between $0.80-$3.20 for each class you complete per month.
For every class you book within 24hrs of the class start time, you get a $2 bonus per class.

All this is amazing, however, there are a few cons. First, as of 2020, VIPKid no longer hires teachers from California, and most recently Washington and New York State. The reason for this is those states do not allow you to earn wages as an independent contractor, which is what you will be if hired by VIPKids.

As an independent contractor, you receive no benefits and have to file your own taxes.

Another drawback is the application process. While the procedure is pretty much straightforward, VIPKid is really rigorous with its hiring process. To ensure they get the most talented candidates, they typically only accept 10% of the applicants they receive.

First, you will have to fill out a basic application form so VIPKid can determine if you qualify for the position

If you qualify, you will then have to complete a quiz, and provide a demo. Once you do that, you will have to participate in a mock class.

The entire process can be time-consuming, and oftentimes cause inspiring new teachers to become disinterested. This is the main reason only 10% of applicants are hired.

Is VIPKid a Scam?

After extensive research, and evaluating countless reviews, VIPKid seems like a legit job opportunity. Usually, online job opportunities that require the number of credentials that VIPKid requires, are usually legitimate. I have not seen any comments from teachers or students that suspect this VIPKid to be a scam or a pyramid scheme.

However, during the pandemic, the Chinese government has prevented all online tutoring, and as of November 5th, children in China cannot take online classes with foreigners. This prohibits a majority of VIPKid users from registering.

Due to this unfortunate circumstance, I do not recommend signing up for VIPKid, or any English tutoring company that is based in China.

Conclusion

If it were not for all the new rules that have been created since the start of the pandemic, I would have said VIPKid is totally worth it.

With all the positive reviews, if you can get past the application process, it’s a great way to make extra cash, as long as you are willing to wake up at 3 am to teach a class, since all the students are in China, and you have to cater to their availability.

The Chinese government has only allowed those living in China to take advantage of VIPKid, so unless you live in China, I do not recommend signing up.
