Welcome to my Scribie review. There are so many websites that claim to help you make money online. Some are legit, most are not. If you are new to how making money online works, it could be hard to tell the difference.

What is Scribie?

Scribie was founded by Rajiv Poddar in 2008 and is based in San Francisco, California. He knew there was a problem in the transcription industry. There was a need to get high-quality accurate transcripts in a reasonable time frame and cost.

With Scribie, Rajiv built a system that makes the audio/video transcription process faster with good quality and up to 99% accuracy.

As a freelance transcriptionist, you benefit by getting access to transcription jobs you work from home.

Scribie Requirements for Transcribers:

You must know English fluently
You must have good listening skills.
You must be able to identify mistakes when checking an audio file against a transcript.
You must have a verified PayPal account.
You must have a computer

Headset or headphones

How does Scribie work?

Your job as a transcriber is to transcribe audio/video files. Your listening skills need to be on point and your typing skills need to be fast and accurate if you want to make decent money.

There are a set of instructions you will have to follow under each job listing.

Scribie transcription process goes like this:

File splitting– When the audio file is submitted by the client it is split into six-minute or under sections. The sections are given to different transcribers to work on.

Automated Transcription– Transcribers can use a built-in automated transcript generator that can transcribe the whole file. According to the website, this generator is not 100% accurate. This is why the company needs transcribers. You will have to go over the work and correct any mistakes.

Review process- A reviewer goes over the work to check the quality and accuracy and also adds timestamps and speakers.

Proofreading- A proofreader goes over the work by comparing the original audio file to check for errors.

Quality Check– Someone does the final quality check to see if the file is ready to be delivered to the client or should it be check for errors again.

Scribie pays $5 to $25 per audio hour.

They pay by audio hour and not the actual time spent working on it. The payment for a 6-minute file therefore can vary from $0.5 to $2.50.

Certification process

1. Sign up as a Transcriber from the Sign Up page.

2. Email Confirmation: To confirm your email address, we will send an email to the signup email with a link.

3. Before you take the test you have to specify a Verified PayPal account.

4. Test File Submission: To take the test, choose one of the files listed, transcribe it and submit the transcript. Please note that your submission will be rejected if any guideline violations are found.

5. Certification: Your submission will be graded when the file is delivered to the customer. Depending upon the grade, you will either be certified as a transcriber (and paid for the test file) or rejected. If rejected, you may compare the differences between your submission and the reviewed file, enable re-test and submit another test file. The maximum number of attempts is 10.

Pros:

Cons:

Low-quality audio files- there are been complaints by transcribers about audio. If the audio is unclear and they have to struggle to figure it out, it will take longer to finish.
Low income- If there is a problem understanding the audio it takes more time to transcribe. And that interferes with the money you make.
Rejected work- Transcribers have complained about having their work rejected instead of giving it a lower grade.

Is Scribie Legit?

Scribie is legit. But I have seen many complaints about this company on the internet. People complain about the pay being low. One person said they transcribed the work and the client did not want the job anymore. So that person didn’t get paid.

AccuTran Global– prefers experienced transcribers but are willing you offer jobs to beginners from the United States and Canada.
The pay ranges from $.0055 per word for beginners to $.0066 per work for more experienced transcriptionists.

1-888-TYPE-IT-UP – this company is interested in new talent. If you reside in the U.S. I suggest you apply with them
Their transcription pay rate ranges from $.60 to $3 per audio minute.

3Play Media- focuses on client transcription services via voice recognition software. If you can type over 75 wpm and reside in the U.S., you can apply to this company. They hire transcription editors. Editors are paid between $10- $25 per hour.

Daily Transcription- If you are a beginner you should look closely at this company. The pay is from $.79 – $1.10 per audio minute. They hire United States and Canadian citizens.

GMR Transcription- This company has strict rules when it comes to formatting as a result their test is harder to pass.
The pay ranges from $.70 to $1.23 per audio minute.

GoTranscript- This company offers jobs for beginners. They pay transcribers up to $.60 per audio/video minute. GoTranscript pays weekly, every Friday via PayPal. You have to pass a fairly easy transcription test

Summary

There are many ways to make money online. You can make money by providing a service such as Transcriptionist. And you can also make money doing simple online tasks such as completing surveys.
