What is Remotasks?

Remotasks.com is a micro job, a crowdsourcing website that pays you to complete online tasks. Remotasks.com is available worldwide and they require you to be fluent in English.

The website is very similar to Upwork, GigBucks, and Amazon Turk and consists of a lot of small gigs. Their categories include:

  • Image tagging
  • Moderating contents
  • Transcribing audio files
  • Identifying spam
  • Categorization
  • Data Collection
  • etc

How does Remotasks work?

In order to sign up, you need to have a Facebook account. And you also have to enter the country you live in and a phone number that can receive text messages.

Once you have filled out the registration form  you will be taken to your dashboard. There is where you will find the different categories which you have to take a test for.

Remotasks University has training, that you will not get paid for doing, on the following subjects:

  • 3D Cuboid Annotation
  • Semantic Segmentation
  • Polygon Annotation
  • Box Annotation
  • Video Box Annotation
  • Categorization

In order to do the work, you have to take the training of that subject and pass the test. Otherwise, that category of work will not be available to you and you will be locked out of it permanently.

If you want to make the most money on Remotasks, I suggest you take the following tests.

  • Image recognition test
  • Polygon counting test
  • Video box identification test
  • Segment annotation

Below is an example of the types of tasks you will complete.

  • Image annotation/tagging- drawing boxes around objects in a 2D or 3D image and assign a keyword to them.
  • Categorization- categorizing different sites depending on what services they provide, categorizing shirts, jackets etc. and also moderating content
  • Image transcription-writing down the content from an image.
  • Audio transcription- writing down what you hear from an audio file.
  • Data collection- browsing the internet to find information
  • Identifying spam.

Make money with Remotasks

The money you make with Remotasks depends on different things. It depends on the category you have access to, the level of difficulty, and how long it takes to complete that particular task.

Remotasks will only pay you for the tasks you complete correctly. So pay close attention to details and instructions. Below is an example of the pay rate for a few tasks.

  • Image annotation: $0.05 – $0.20 per task (under 4 minutes).
  • Categorization: $0.01 – $0.02 per task (under 3 minutes).
  • Lidar: $5 – $80 per task ( 3 – 6 hours per task).
  • Audio transcription and other tasks- $1-$2 per hour

It could be possible to earn up to $50 a month with Remotasks. You need to have a laptop or PC with at least 4 GB of Ram. And it is recommended by Remotasks that you work 20 hours per week.

They pay via PayPal weekly and you have to pay a 2% transaction fee for using PayPal.

You also can make money by referring people using your Remotasks referral link. I am not sure how much because I am getting conflicting information but it somewhere between $5- $10 per referral.

Pros

  • The signup process is quick.
  • $5 minimum payout requirement.
  • Pays weekly via PayPal on Fridays.
  • Flexible work time
  • There is an online community to help you.

Cons

  • Low pay rates.
  • Tedious work
  • If you don’t pass the test, they will not tell you.
  • If you are slow and inaccurate completing the task you will be banned.
  • You have to pay a 2% transaction fee every time you get paid via PayPal.

Is Remotasks a Scam?

Remotasks is not a scam. But is it a waste of time? That is up to you and your situation. The money you make may not be life-changing but every bit helps. But remember to keep certain points in mind while you make your decision.

The work may not be plentiful. There is a fee for using PayPal. And if you are slow and inaccurate you can be banned.

There are other ways to make money online by doing simple online tasks. Check out the websites below.

These are Get-Paid-to websites that are known for actually paying their members. They do not claim to pay you enough to make you rich. These websites are sources for some extra pocket money and are reputable. I am a firm believer in not putting all your eggs in one basket.
